For the upcoming issue of Vanity Fair, the U.S magazine has unveiled four beautiful alternate Star Wars covers. To highlight the 40th anniversary of the saga, and VF’s special feature on the upcoming film – The Last Jedi.
The images feature the returning cast from The Force Awakens, as well as a new addition to series. The first cover shows Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamil), the second with General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson), Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo (Adam Driver), the third with Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), Finn (John Boyega) and Resistance newcomer Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) – not to forget BB-8. And finally, the fourth with the late Carrie Fisher. Looking simply majestic as General Leia.
The images were captured by photographer Annie Leibovitz, whose full portfolio of photos will be online this Wednesday (24/05/17).
Judging from the images, there are a few hints of what we may see play out in The Last Jedi come December. It’s worth noting that Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma both appear sans helmets in their photo. Phasma, in the small amount of screen time she appeared in during The Force Awakens, always appeared with her helmet on – common for Imperial troops throughout the Star Wars series. May this suggest a more involved role in the film? We also get a good look at Ren’s fresh scar, following his climactic battle with Rey. Whilst Poe Dameron’s look for the film appears to have taken even further inspiration from Han Solo. Replacing the jacket he amiably bequeathed to Finn, with a very Solo-esque brown leather jacket….
The main article over at VF contains some brief details about the shoot and the characters featured – but you can find the images below.
